Thanks I have just wasted 54 minutes (probably closer to 2 hours - 51 mins is my "in game time" on steam) of my life trying to get audio working in this stupid game, I've tried literally everything listed here, and cannot possibly work out how this game gets audio so horribly wrong - Unmuting my sound, verifying game files, Restarting the game, restarting steam, reinstalling the game, reinstalling steam, updating macOS, reinstalling my life, mental breakdown, moving back in with my parents, switching to windows (this one fixed the issue but only temporarily). When I get strange crackling audio, or no sound, or any other sound problems, this often does the trick for me: Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers > Realtek High Definition Audio > Right Click > Properties > Driver Tab > Uninstall Device > Reset PC. I tried opening SteamVR first, I tried both betas, and nada. Friends have audio and I haven’t seen anyone else with this problem anyone… Same issue as you, Found the fix.
